People with chronic kidney disease and type 2 diabetes may face heart disease up to 28 years earlier than others.

The study, led by New York University Langone Health researchers who looked at data from more than 6,000 Fitbit users who were part of the All of Us Research Program, found that an extra hour a week of increased activity reduced risk of developing the irregular heartbeat by 11%.

Scientists found that engaging in physical activity between 2.5 and 5 hours per week - the minimum amount recommended by the American Heart Association - showed a 60% lower risk of developing atrial fibrillation.

New research indicates that 1 hour of moderate exercise per week can help prevent atrial fibrillation (AFib). While a small amount of exercise reduced AFib risk, study participants who exercised more reaped even greater benefits.
