Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he had spoken with Donald Trump on Thursday after the Republican's U.S. election win, as Australia's U.S. ambassador deleted comments he previously made about Trump,

Anthony Albanese has congratulated Donald Trump on winning the US election and pledged to work with the Republican leader, but it will be a tricky time for the Prime Minister given his past criticisms of the resurgent US president.

The current Australian ambassador to Washington recently deleted posts from social media site X calling President-elect Trump "destructive" after he won the 2024 election.

President-elect Donald Trump's election win is expected to lead to more Australians buying electric vehicles. Mr Trump's promised tariffs on Chinese-made vehicles of up to 200 per cent is likely to mean more of them will head to Australia instead.
