A Texas couple whose pit bulls viciously mauled an elderly veteran to death will each spend nearly a decade behind bars for the unprovoked attack. Ramon Najera, 81, died when he was attacked by two dogs that had escaped their yard and charged at him and his 74-year-old wife, Juanita, in San Antonio.

Christian Moreno and Abilene Schnieder, both 32, pleaded guilty to dangerous dog attack causing death. Their dogs killed Air Force veteran Ramon Najera Jr., 81.

San Antonio authorities said Ramon Najera and his wife, Juanita, were arriving to visit relatives when the dogs got loose from a nearby property and attacked.

A Texas couple was sentenced to more than a decade in prison each Friday after their pit bulls got loose and killed an 81-year-old man last year, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said.

The San Antonio couple charged in the grisly dog attack that killed elderly Air Force veteran Ramon Najera Jr. last year received a combined 33 years in prison during the sentencing portion of their trial.
