Flagler County Fire Rescue announced new safety protocols after a former paramedic accused of molesting an unconscious patient was arrested last week.

The protocols include requiring two personnel riding in the back of ambulances when patients are considered vulnerable or are underage.

Putting two responders in the back of all rescue vehicles and more rigorous psychological evaluations are just a couple of the new guidelines in place.

Less than 24 hours after a former Flagler County paramedic was arrested for sex crimes following the discovery of disturbing videos, Flagler County Sheriff Rick Stay told News4JAX that he and his investigators believe there are more victims.

Investigators discovered a video showing James Melady, 37, appearing to sexually assault an unconscious woman while she was being taken to the hospital in 2021.

This procedure was implemented before knowledge of this incident and will continue.Enhanced Surveillance – Current external 360-degree cameras used for driver awareness will have an additional camera installed in the back of all vehicles for awareness of activities in the patient compartment for additional safety.
